District Nursing Services at Paxton Green
District nurses are fully qualified general nurses who have undertaken extra training to enable them to provide skilled nursing care to housebound patients in the community.
Working to meet the health needs of the community
The district nursing team works closely with the primary health care team in meeting the health needs of the community.
Health Promotion
District Nurses promote health and the prevention of illness by establishing and running health promotion and screening clinics, and participate in the training of health care staff.
Advice
District Nurses can advise and help with wound care, pain control, incontinence, nutritional needs, HIV/AIDS, counselling, bereavement, pre-discharge planning, supply equipment e.g. pressure relieving mattresses, hospital beds etc.
Can I contact the District Nurse myself?
Yes, you can contact the district nurse directly and self-refer or ask him/her to see a relative or friend who needs care. Patients can also be referred by their doctor, social worker, hospital, home help etc.

The Midwifery Team at Paxton Green
What is the role of a Midwife?
Midwives care for women during pregnancy if they are booked under King’s College Hospital (KCH). The first appointment (booking) is at KCH.
Members of the midwifery team are available at the surgery by appointment only on a Wednesday
The Health Visiting Team at Paxton Green
What is the role of a Health Visitor?
Health Visitors are nurses who have undergone specialist training in community health, child development and health promotion. They work one-to-one with individuals as well as with groups to promote people’s physical, psychological and social well being. They work with families with children under 5 years old, providing support and advice on nutrition, safety, parenting and family issues.
Health Visitors are available at the Well Baby Clinic every Thursday from 9:30am to 12:00pm
